USGS POLO DOMINATES CONGRESSIONAL CUP USGS Polo’s Stacey Stover broke the tie to give the team the 4-2 victory over Spencewood Ranch in the USPA 0- to 4- goal Congressional Cup held at the Spencewood Ranch in Lockhart, Texas on November 7. Five equally-matched teams competed for the trophy over two days. The games were close and fast-paced. In preliminary matches, there was a round robin between Spencewood, Austin Polo and Fredericksburg. Spencewood, led by Daniel Fernandez who was backed up by Bubba Morrison, out-played both of the other teams and came away with a narrow victory sending them to the final. Next, USGS Polo played our local university team with the assistance of Wendy Barquin and Stephanie Scruggs. USGS Polo handily progressed to the final but not without a fight from UT Polo. MVP for the day went to USGS’s Lee Walker who scored six of the team’s nine goals. Spencewood’s Bubba Morrison scored both of the goals for his team in the final. With the game 56 POLO PLAYERS EDITION USGS Polo’s Dr. Ron Horne, Stacey Stover, Lee Walker and Deanna Terry tied up in the third chukker, Stacey Stover quickly scored two goals for USGS and led his team to an exciting win. FLORIDA/CARIBBEAN FROSS & FROSS TAKES VILLAGES OPENING CUPS Fross & Fross took home the trophies in the first three tournaments of The Villages Polo Club’s 2010 fall season. The first match of the year, the 6-Goal Villages Golf Cart Cup, set the tone for the entire season as the championship match went into overtime before Cuko Escapite and his special pony, Kaboom struck just 10 seconds into sudden-death. After picking up a loose ball just outside the bowl-in and racing untouched, his chip-shot goal gave Fross & Fross an exciting come-from-behind 11- 10 win over Fort Knox.
