Amy Wisehart is USPA’s Assistant Tournament Director, and works with I/I Program Director, Kim Syme, in organizing the I/I tournament season. Amy is also a UCONN polo alum. If you’re interested in starting an interscholastic or intercollegiate program in your area, contact the USPA I/I program director Kim Syme at (800) 232-USPA or email ksyme@uspolo.org. POLO PLAYING PONY CLUBBERS The USPA has been working with its member clubs and the U.S. Pony Club to offer polo to the USPC regions in the form of educational clinics. If your club is interested in hosting a U.S. Pony Club polo clinic, please follow the necessary steps below: Contact PTF Instructor Wilbur O’Ferrall at 717-645-8715 and/or USPA Pony Club Committee Chairwoman Margie Paur at 262-677-1412. Ask O’Ferrall to be on site to help with the clinic. Identify Pony Clubs in your area by going to the USPC website and look for the link on “How to Find a Pony Club.” Contact the local Pony Club and explain who, what, where, how and why, and then find a suitable date. Ask the USPC District Commissioner or Regional Supervisor to include a flyer of your clinic, with details and lesson plan, to other pony clubs in their newsletter. Contact local media and tell them about the clinic. Provide a safe environment for the clinic, like an arena. Have quiet polo horses available but invite attendees to bring their own horses. Contact Equisure, Inc. to provide additional insurance for clinic dates. When conducting the clinic, keep in mind to: •Focus on safety first, but provide a fun atmosphere and the learning will follow. •Distribute liability waivers for attendees to sign along with a sign in sheet asking for name, address, phone and email. •Provide information about the USPA/PTF, including USPA membership forms, rule books, and information about polo clinics and polo camps, to distribute at Pony Club events. •Before the clinic ends, take a photo and ask participants to Polo 2020-A Vision for the Future is a newly-formed campaign designed around a simple question addressing the direction of the association and the best course of action when planning long term: “Where does the USPA want to be in 2020?” We invite you to participate in our online membership survey so that you can help guide USPA leadership in making smart decisions that will result in better serving you as a member, now and in the future. Go to www.uspolo.org and click on the POLO 2020 logo. The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete. By completing the survey, you will receive a complimentary Polo 2020 t-shirt and you will be entered into a drawing for two tickets to the 2011 U.S. Open Polo Championship final held on April 24 at International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, Florida. Would you do it again? (Remember to keep your survey simple, short and sweet). •Write up a brief article about the clinic and send a picture to the USPC news magazine, USPA, Polo Players’ Edition magazine and other polo media outlets. •Follow-up with participants to learn of their interest in pursuing the sport. Invite them to another clinic, take part in a polo school, or become a member. Be sure to invite them to other polo events.
